Success is measured by the obstacle

When we tell ourselves not to set impossible standards, we think in universals: perfection doesn’t exist, don’t try to control the uncontrollable, all you can do is all you can do.

But impossible standards can also be local, time-bound, personal. Some days, getting to work is an achievement; doing a fantastic job is impossible. Some days, just brushing your hair requires overcoming a monumental struggle.

In other words: success is about overcoming whatever the obstacle of the day happens to be. Don’t measure yourself by the obstacles of better days.
